being marooned on the same ice floe as a big boar polar bear with wet ammo (and no change of pants)

Running out of water during a Gobi desert jackal hunt.

Stumbling onto a sow grizzly with cubs while they are on a kill

drinking too much pombe and sleeping on your back in hyaena country.

realising that the sudden headache was the tigers teeth meeting in your skull.

etc etc etc hahaa now treat the above as some sort of inspiration and see what we come up with

No not really. My incident was pretty tame - for me anyway.

I have heard however (in Zambia - I believe) where poachers tried to ambush hunting safaris with automatic gunfire.

Also I travelled in Kenya in 1988 and if travelling to the Turkana region (North West) it was mandatory to pick up police or soldiers for part of the journey as the local "shufta" (or shifta - ie bandits) would often try to rob travellors. The soldiers advise travellors not to sit next to them as the bandits will try to shoot the soldiers first.

Now as for the police, in a lot of cases, is there a big difference between them and bandits? Legalised robbery vs banditry.

In tune with Gryphons post ....

Sleeping under the stars and thinking the warm wet tongue is your girlfriends but finding out it is a hyaena tasting before buying.

(this is a lot like Gryphon's sleeping on yiour back after too much pombe but is a recurring image in my mind when sleeping out under the stars in the real bush. Pombe would help a lot though to get to sleep.)

Being gone on a hunt 3 days longer than the pregnent wife agreed to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Ian Nyschens book 'Months of the Sun'(excellent reading)
he talks about a black member of his camp staff, sleeping naked, with his head towards the campfire. The guy woke up in agony, to find a hyena had bitten off his genitals and was loping off out of camp with them !
I can't imagine anything more horrific !
