Savage 99 .22 takedown from Mantons, Calcutta
      #190941 - 29/09/11 01:03 AM

Hi chaps

This is my first posting, so excuse all the mistakes which follow.

I currently own a Savage 99 takedown in .22 Savage High Power. The serial number dates it to 1933. It is in its original case, and was supplied by Mantons of Calcutta. I know the name of the Scottish Indian Army officer who brought it back to Britain in 1947 when India gained its independence, but am wondering if the original records of Mantons of Calcutta still exist.

Before you ask it shoots very well, with 1.5" groups at 100 yards using the open sights, and is easy to reload, using S&B components.

Now I need to work out how to add a photo...

HB

Welcome to Nitro Express!
The 22HP is one of those greats ahead of it's time and I am glad to hear your reloading is going well.
My impression is that the 22HP was quite popular in India as a light buck rifle but has also had enough zoot to take bigger game as well if needed.
I am not sure of the Manton records but I too am interested in looking up another Manton 22HP.
