Is the Australian buffalo the same as the one native to India? I have a copy of "Shooting in Cooch Behar" with pictures of truly enormous horns and stories of 10 to 15 shots from 8 & 10 bore BP rifles before they fell.
The "bison" is also shown but only 48 were shot by the Maharajah in the 37 years covered by the book while 438 buffalo and 365 tigers were taken in the same period. Interesting book as the Maharajah used everything from a 4 bore double rifle firing 15 drams of black powder to the smallest cordite rifles and was especially fond of the Paradox or Explora from the howdahs.
