Saturday morning
      #190610 - 24/09/11 10:34 AM

I started down low in the bush at daybreak for a nil deer count so then I set my sights on a wallow up high on the range and climbed for 45 minutes until a wind change turned me away from the wallow and I headed over a saddle into another system.
It wasn't long before I saw a cherry rub right at a heavy tea tree patch of many acres and some fresh marks were about it with some leading into the bush on the trail right side of the pic.

A combination of a 4am start and a long steep hill had me sitting on my arse under the cherry for a while until I heard a noise on my right and frig me there were two sambar trotting downhill through the tea tree bush and stopped virtually on top of me haha, one propped and stared hard at me from 6-7 yards away..camera`s in the frigging bag #@#@ it! The rifle was laying on the game trail and the deer was in front of the two darker wattles dead ahead.I wasnt going to shoot one with a major carry out to my ute far below....BUT the fat condition made me think haha.

They propped, stared, sniffed, stomped and then went into the bush behind,I waited a while after getting my camera out listening to them honk me.Eventually I could make the body of one out when it sneaked back to evaluate me again.

One went left under me into the open bush and the other went above right and around me.Anyway I got a few pics, its always good to have deer up close and personal.

Great pics!

I can totally see why these animals could become a hunting obsession!

To most sambar hunters it is an obsession 9.3... I`ve just had my breakfast and I`m waiting on Rono and we are gonna head off into a different location in 1/2 an hour.
Its bloody cold outside but in no time it will be warm as buggery heading up into the bush, its that time of year.
