'Bertram' makes the Brass cases, Woodleigh makes the projectiles. If you need Bruce Bertram for cases let me know and I will give you his Email but Woodleigh Projectiles is already on the forum tonight.

Freight will kill you ... but bought locally the 50s are dirt cheap bargains as are his 585" pills at $80 per 100! Very thick jacket, same as what he uses for his 50BMG pills. Available in 440gr, 535gr and 570gr. No bonding or anything fancy, just a thick jacket around a lead core.

Not a criticism but rather a by-product of the old machinery he uses to make pills ... the heel is full diameter but they will taper to be undersized forward of that heel. This has caused me issues in crimping his 35cal and 45cal pills as at the cannelure they may be 0.002" undersized. If the heel of the projectile extends below the neck in your cartridge then you may have trouble holding them in place. After trying them I now understand why so many old cartridges had long necks ... it helps secure projectiles in place!

But ... they shoot!
Cheers...

Bruce sent me some 400 grain 404 pills to try but I have not done it yet.

Haven't used them but for plinking they are fine.

BUT check the diameter of the bullets with a caliper before using. Have been known to be incorrect sizes.

I've purchased a fair few for myself and mates. Measured his 308" (x200), 311" (x200), 408" (x50), 358" (x250), 458" (x150), 510" (x150) ... all fine except for the noted taper with a very few 'wasp-waisted' in that the heel was full diameter, they then drop off, then come back to just undersized at the cannelure.

I'm waiting on his 215gr in the 303Brit, plus he'll do a 0.620" at some stage and was talking about a 250gr spitzer a la the Siera MatchKing.

From memory ... weren't many of the original Kynoch projectiles similarly shaped in that they were full sized only at the heel but then tended to be undersized as you went forward?
Cheers...

Killed a few pigs and paper with the 480gr 458s. Not bonded but I would consider them fine for most game.
Also have them for the 425.
They seem to shoot the same as the Woodeligh version.

I've used the 570gn Betram 0.510 in my 500NE and they did well on paper to 50m - this were reloaded by someone else. I'll shortly be buying reloading dies for this cartridge and intend to buy the Bertram 570gn and also the 440gn in this calibre for reduced loads.

Re Bertram bullets. I've got a few packets of .318's and .450's but haven't used them yet, so can't comment.

G'Day Fella's,

My imagination got the better of me, so I went and located Bruce's web site.

Hope that helps

Bruces 410 grain 416cal go to the same point as the 400grain Woodlieghs in my Rigby. I have only shot 1 pig with the Rigby and the Bertrams worked well.

Bruce did tell me he they were not bonded and slightly on the soft side. He would feel comfortable useing them on every thing up to but not including Scrub Bull and Buff.

The 416's weight between 410 and 413 grains but all go to the same point and as Con said they have the heel. Factory crimp dies might work.

Cup and core were all that Kynoch had and worked for many years.

I agree - most worked well, some didn't - much depending on the speed they were driven. Note that most were driven at barely over the 2,000fps threshold. At speeds above 2,500fps, design is MOST important.

That is true Daryl.
I still use Kynoch 400 grainers in my 404 @ 2250 fps on pigs and paper. They shed their jackets 9 times out of 10.
