Most interesting. Any patent info on the action? by Emil, Hugo, F.W. Eckoldt or another Eckoldt being the patentee?

Kind Regards,

I have found the Patent # 262444, "Schloss für Kipplaufgewehre", Emil Eckoldt in Suhl , 14.Juli 1912.
Its the easiest and smoothest working action i have ever hold in the hands, outstanding.

Do you have more info on the eckoldts?

Emil Eckoldt, born 1854, died 1930, founded his business in 1876 at Judithstr.15, Suhl. By 1923 the shop was run by Hugo Eckoldt and Robert Schilling.
The British would call Eckoldt's action a "self-opening spring cocker". E. mounted hammers and mainspring on a see-saw like lever, hammers and lever rotating on the same pin. The front end of the lever protudes into the bottom of the action bar, where it is held down by the rear barrel lump in the closed gun. On opening the gun the front end of the lever is free to move up. An additional spring rotates lever, hammers and mainsprings to the rear, where the hammers are caught by to top-mounted, Kerner type sears. On closing the gun the barrel lump rotates the lever foreward/down, cocking the main springs.

That is a real slick design, beautiful in it's simplicity.

All:

Thanks for all the effort as after seeing the patent and mainsprings I remember that Emil Eckoldt made drillings on that patent. As Axel notes, Emil Eckoldt hung out his shingle in 1876 within 2 years of Heinrich A. Lindner's founding/expansion. Early on, and possibly prior to H.A. Lindner's sole contract with Schoverling & Daly, Emil Eckoldt was a subcontractor to either Charles Daly or Charles Daly's contact in Suhl. Emil Eckoldt was sourced for the barrel knitting effort and may have performed other tasks. During this period one will see the stamp "E.E.". Sporting weapons from a bit later are found with "E.E.S." and I assume the stamp attribute liability to the same craftsman with "S" being for Suhl. I can't say with certainty when or if the H.A. Lindner & Emil Eckoldt sourcing line was broken, but sometime around WWI a stamp of "EES" encircled by a heart is found. It seems that many of the trademarks of the craftsmen were the same as their telegraph address, and I can't say if it was happenstance or which came 1st, the telegraph address or the acronym found on sporting weapons. The trademark "EcKo" is seen say post WWI and seems to be connected to Hugo Eckoldt as post WWII his examples wear the trademark. I'll venture a guess the Hugo was born within a couple years of the founding of the firm. Emil Eckoldt examples from the 1930s have the "Ecko" stamp.

About this time the Emil Eckoldt firm was making double barrel flare pistols 1st with the Ecko stamp and then their assigned code.

Kind Regards,

Raimey
