That has got to be the epitome of the English black powder double rifle!

Refurbished or not it is a beauty! Do follow the connection the pics are excellent

If I was a little bit richer I would have it like a shot!

Many thanks for posting

Who wouldn't want to have a 4-bore double rifle ... and some one to carry it for you on safari too.

Its a beautiful gun. Its just a pitty the original express-sights weren`t remade or duplicated instead of buying a recknagel insert made for bolt guns.

I'm not one to bad-mouth any double rifle, but I really have never had interest in a 4 bore. I could be enticed by an 8 bore, but I think that's the limit for me.

But who knows?

Having owned a .585 nyati and a .600 NE, I can tell you that both have too much recoil to be fun, and both are too heavy for a guy like me to carry on a stalk. The 4 bore would be great fun, if other people shot it. But still I marvel at it.

500, the weight is there to lug about, but with smokeless powders a full velocity 8-bore load in a 16-17lb rifle is no more "painful" than a light 458 in terms of feel, to my subjective opinion. I've honestly shot poorly stocked 300wins that hurt far far more on the bench than an 8 off of sticks, and there's no comparison when it comes to style. If you can shoot a light 338 or normal 416 (and I know you do and more), I think the weight and lower acceleration rate make it 'feel' comperable despite the higher theoretical recoil ft-lb numbers. Off sticks 2 ounce balls at 1600 and 3 ounce concials at 1325 are reasonable fun loads with smokeless. Try it, you'll like it, trust me!

Perhaps I will run onto one that is a bit less expensive. Then I may get to pull the trigger one.

Or you could wander up here during one of our DR shoots and see some of the BIG iron that Bob and Cal have.. They are impressive! The rest of us stick to the 'small bores'. 500 and smaller.

Beautiful gun, but has been for sale for over a year and a half on the Hallowell site.
