Ruger #1 / Ching Sling ?
      #188522 - 25/08/11 01:00 PM

Gentlemen, I've finally scratched a long time #1 itch and I'm curious if any #1 owners have installed two sling studs in the forearm of their guns to use a three point Ching sling to steady their field shooting? Thanks in advance for your input. ChuckT

Those forearms don't need any more pressure on them. What the hell is a Ching sling?
Barrel bedding is very important on a #1 and they don't like be pushed or shoved arond...

I think I'd have to agree that the Ching sling is not so good an idea for the No.1. I suppose it is possible to mount it, and that part would be easy, but whether using it for the various sling holds would be detrimental to forearm position, well, I think it would.

Phillip, A Ching sling has a secondary strap about half way down the main sling body. It attaches to a swivel stud mounted just forward of the floorplate on a bolt rifle. Works like a military loop sling only way faster to get into. Makes sitting and kneeling solid as a rock. Used one years back on bolt rifles, works great. Was hoping somebody on the forum might have tried it. I'm worried if the extra pressure on the fore end of a #1 will muck up the accuracy. ChuckT.

I think I understand it. I have enough hunting experince with a #1,been shooting them for 30+years to know that for good shooting with these, you must clean out and float the forend/barrel and have a good end pressure on the bottom of the barrel pushing up only, not pulling to the side or pulling away.I keep a sling in my pocket to hook on,when it's tiime to drag something out....
