Mexican Mauser Model 1910
      #188346 - 23/08/11 07:08 AM

I have consulted all the sources available to me, including the internet, and have yet to come up with a conclusive answer. Who made the Model 1910 for Mexico? Some authorities say FN, others say FNA of Mexico, others say both. If some of the rifles were made by FN, is it possible to identify them, and if so, how? Am I correct in assumiong that an FN made rifle would be preferable for use in building a sporter?

I found this link:

http://roberts-rifles.tripod.com/id3.html

The source is quoted at the bottom of the page as the "Mauser Military Rifles of the World" by Robert W. D. Ball. I've got a copy at home (I'm at work at the moment) and can check. This book is "the bible" of military Mausers.

I have an action that was remodeled into a VZ 33 copy. The gent that I bought it from told me that the Mexican 1910s were machined at the Mexican State Arsenal in Mexico City on Pratt and Whitney machinery bought from the USA and under the supervison of German technicians. The quality of the machine work and the heat treat seems to make this credible.

"Mexican Model 1910, it was the first Mexican service rifle produced in the Fabrica National de Arms

(National Arms Factory) in Mexico City".
