That is a beautiful rifle from the height of the golden age of DR's!
Which 577/500 cartridge is it? My AH is a 3 1/8" 577/500 Express. That one is much nicer!

Jut over Aust $10k. interesting.

Non rebounding hammers might have pulled it back but
the Alex Henry name and the condition would have
pushed it up.

You confused me.

You said "$20K AUD landed here" but preceeding that you mentioned plus VAT.

What has Pommy VAT got to do with bringing a gun to Australia from where the auction is held ?

"customs agent handling fees" aren't that much. it would be the same as any other air freight shipment and if sent via the post, even cheaper.

I'd say 10k, then 2k (assuming your 20% is correct),
you could land it here in Aust for under 15k if not under 13.5 - 14k.

The OP quotes Swedish kronor/UK pounds.

I believe that remission of UK VAT is subject to whim and if granted takes forever.

The "safety inspection" by the State's police would add to the agent's fees.

I believed that it was a UK auction, no?

DON'T KNOW, but why put a gun like that in a Swedish auction site when you have the biggest and the best auction houses in the UK ?

I still don't get how that auction is subject to UK VAT,
even if it was in the UK, if you are on OS buyer I have
never been charged VAT.

Same as if I sell something from here in Aus OS, I don't charge an overseas buyer GST.

I maybe wrong but I am 90% certain that if you bought it as an Australian and it was then exported there then there would be no VAT, buyers commish is between 10-20%. Perhaps I should mention I was having a chat with Nick Holt a few weeks ago and I am now Holts "representative" in Spain. Not doing it for the money, just hopefully to see some nice stuff so if any of you out there in Spain are looking and have something you think might be interesting email me, best, Mike p.s. 500: The OP referred to assumed price in SWEK/GBP. The OP may be from SWE.

My "buyers %" is a low bid from experience in international art house auctions of objets vertu (as a curator) not a buyer.

From the propensity of governments to maximise their take I took a worst case assumption (that of compouned costs).

Customs agents of course set their own schedule of charges.

FWIW please read my origin (Oz) OK?

The OP did not quote GBP, He quoted "Price 65 000 SEK/10 000 US$"

3. If I am looking at a US Auction site, then I expect things to be in US$. If in the UK, GBP, if in Sweden, Kronor.

And considering it is on a Swedish web site .......

Most I use charge the same amount for doing the same job within a few dollars. The rest of the crap is Gov't charges
and of course GST.

I think you are making it far more complicated than it needs to be. It is not that expensive or difficult to
bring guns into Australia, I've brought a fair few in.

That´s not an auction, 65 000 SEK (svenska kronor) is a whole price in Sveden. The seller is a private person, so there isn´t any buyers premium.

Thanks for that. Because I wasn't interested in the gun, I didn't convert the web page as the important info - like $$$$ is universal.

However I did check the home page to see where it was located / hosted which is why I couldn't understand the UK VAT query !!!

Interesting - we're so tuned to there being at least one intermediate person ro business increasing the 'presented' cost and making money off every sale - of everything, we automatically think that way. That's not good that this is an automatic response. It's the asumption that opens the door and keeps it open to the middleman.

Yes - I understand that the gun auctions are designed that way, different from a straight foreward consignment sale where the consignee pays the person/business selling the goods.

Orvar, yep, basically they have had "problems" getting a "straight" representative over here so I said I´ll try and help. With the crisis over here (not Greece but not pretty, unemployment over 20% throughout Spain and here in Andalucia about 37% amongst those under 27 years old) maybe there will be some folks trimming down the gun safes ! best, Mike

Agreed!

Now, there are some serious collections out there (and you most probably know many more of them than I do... although have been fortunate enough to see a couple:))

Would be awesome for Nick to have more rifles for some of the next sales... the last 2-3 have been a bit devoid of things for me to drool over in the rifle department (although quite enough in the shotguns)

Am still kicking myself for not grabbing that 303 Farq in the Dec-09 sale!!!

Hope you find some gems
