308 NM and meat.
      #187469 - 06/08/11 08:30 PM

Rono rang and asked if I wanted to tag along to his mates place for an arvo hunt today, its a mix of wattle banks, creeks and some steep country above the creeks.
I took the new NM for another run and while i had passed on a young stag last week today I rolled a hind on the hill in a great place where we could get the vehicle to within 20 yards.I take these opps as they come and CBF carrying deer from way back in the hills so it was a close by bonus to hang her up.I noticed her calf 80 yards above and rolled it too,we like veal!
No complaints on the calibre of course.

Nice country and an easy carry-out. BTW I see early wattle species bloom with some dieback too. I think a mild (not hot) summer may be on the way.

That rifle is so bright! You need to cover it with camo tape!

Ha ha. Good hunting mate.

We knew what you meant Sville its easy with internet spelling these days. FB404,you are on the ball,it is indeed a great mix of ground but those bloody hills are far steeper and higher that it seems. We were lucky as the incessant rain slowed to 'just wet' while we kicked off from the ute around 3pm or so.Perhaps you might like to come down and have a taste of it as a change from the up north hunting.
You are right JH as only yesterday I tried to find online where I could get one of the gun sock things. All I could find was the units one uses to store your guns in the safe with.Perhaps someone has a link to one.
The rifle was built primarily as a 'sit and wait long ranger' (if necessary) and with a 26" barrel its taking a while with the extra length to get used to such while stalking through thick bush,I want to take a stag with it but he would want to be a 1/2 decent one to roll one in the back country.
Thats not dieback Rick, wattles have a very short life of 15-25 years and there are always a mix of new and old in the bush.I dont know about summer but Spring has virtually arrived here and thats early!.
My dogs caught five rabbits as I moved hay rolls recently and the guts were blown badly as I had noticed after tipping them out down the paddock for fox bait, thats early for blowies...bastards!
I will have to bag the two deer hanging up this morning against flies
I rolled this pair of red fellas near my house on a pile of fresh deer guts a couple of weeks ago, foxes love guts!
Note the bored out truck axle, its a 30 year old Baikal, rough as guts, boots like buggery but to its credit I walked up 400 foxes with it in the good fur years that were worth 12 grand! No one knocks my Baikal haha.
