bought a Leica LRF 1200 Scan a week ago, and have to admit that I'm pretty amazed at how accurate it is so far in a variety of conditions.
It gets a big thumbs up from me.

I had mine for two years and three trips to Africa and it is just great. Specially when you hunt open areas.

Mike,
Of the differant LRFs I've tried one of the things I like the most about the Leica is that the nubers are in LED instead of the usual LCD. With the black LCD numbers it can often be hard to see them when it's getting darker, or against a dark backround. The LED is readable in all conditions since it is light.
I've been told by those who know more than I that the Leica can take more of a beating too. But I have no proof of that of course.
Have a look at one of the 1200 Scans if you have a chance just for fun. It's a good product.

I don't think it is waterproof in the sense that it can be submerged. But then I personally don't need a LRF that has that ability! Since mine is so new, I haven't tried it out in all weather conditions yet. However, I did have it out in some pretty heavy rain about a month ago, and no problems occured.
I kind of doubt that Leica would let one of their products out on the market if it didn't have what it takes to handle heavy rain etc. since that would be so damaging to the Leica brand name.
