Gibbs Farquharson Pairing

This rifle may look like your run of the mill Gibbs (if there ever was such a thing) but it is actually a smaller frame than my 461 but larger than the rook actions. The stock and length of pull is very near to identical to my 461 so I am thinking it was not made as a child's or ladies rifle.
Almost every dimension of the action is roughly 10% smaller and the block is much shorter than most Gibbs Farqs.
It is chambered in 303 British and weighs roughly 5.5lbs! Yes, I expect it will be quite a handful.
The barrel is nitro proved, but the gun is from right around the time that the 303 went from black powder to nitro. I would say a probable rebarrel (no address) but there is record of another medium actioned rifle of similar weight in 303 too. A nice mild load would be a pleasure in this gun - any suggestions?

For now, just a couple teaser shots - you all know how slow I am to post more pictures so this will have to do for the time being. Still working on bigger pictures too.

Surely you will use the 215 grain bullet. IMR4895 is great for that combination.

Absolute Art!! They seem to be breeding! Next time you look there will be three.There is an amazing amount of Colour Case Hardening remaining on your .303", and it is very nice to see the size comparison to the .461.

An interesting comparison inasmuch that the top photo shows what appears to be worn engraving on the action yet the rest is near pristine with excellent CCH. I posit that the barrels have been reblacked and the actions re CCH at some point.


But how sweet of form those trigger guards are!

The 303 has been refinished entirely, well done though.
The 461 has probably had a barrel reblack but the action is untouched.
Must be the lighting playing with the engraving, the 303 has been laquered so is more shiny in the light. Both are crisp and clean and the 303 looks to be untouched other than the colors. Makes one wonder just how badly it needed the recolor anyway...

Certainly very pleasant stuff you have mate!

BTW as to scuff resistant metalwork I've had success with heat bluing screws and clear cerakote finish over. I'd imagine it would work over cch metal without marring it.
