Thought I would post a couple pictures of my Dickson. When I bought it, the exterior of the barrel was covered in little pin prick pits. Steve Bertram's shop restruck and finished the barrel and had the address recut - beautiful job!

Exceptional. One detail I enjoy on Scottish rifles is the full checkering on the forends. The shell on this one just adds a little extra.

Interesting inasmuch that the cranked lock is LHS and the stalking safety is behind the hammer (quite rare). FWIW the dophin headed hammer is very nice but the comparatively plain cut border may detract from the overall quality of the piece and I have never seen a scallop shell (pre 1800 style) fore-end.
Have you contacted Wal Winfer?

Just a note on this gun regarding its rarity and styling. It was made completely in house by Dickson, who I assume paid royalties to Alex Henry for patent use. It is a very early gun, but every bit is is marked JD&S. A neat gun and a pleasure to have in the shop.

I'd like to see the fresh-cut barrel address and refinish.
Neat rifle!

It was hard to photograph well. This is the best we could do with the pictures.

Edited by CptCurl: Very large photo resized; detail of barrel inscription added.

I haven't contacted Wal on this rifle. Steve Barnett has a very similar rifle on his site although it is a .500 and has the hammer safety in front of the hammer. It does have the contoured lock (that is what you mean by "cranked" right?) on the left side. The forend tip is the same as on mine. Thought that would be a fun detail to duplicate on a Ruger No.1 IIRC, Seyfreid had an article in the DGJ about a similar gun in .360Express which I will have to look up. That may have been a Dickson on a Henry patent action with a Fraser barrel.

Mate,
"Cranked" is where the lock surface dips behind the hammer to follow the wrist, making for a trimmer stock.
Nice patination too.
