John,
Great article on the 333 Jeffery. I remember reading about the 333 Jeffery and the Elmer Keith .333 OKH in an old gun magazine or perhaps Gun Digest. The Barnard article highlights the great performance by the .333 Jeffery and also points out that the .338 Winchester is a more economical option for most hunters. Still, having a pre war rifle in .333 Jeffery would be a nice addition to anyone's armory. I guess the same goes for the .318 Westley Richards.

Does anyone know why winchester changed the diameter from .333. to .338? Was it it market something totally new? I dont remember another .338 caliber round before the winchester

Anyone other than Woodleigh make .333 calibre projectiles?
Woodleigh make a 250 and 300 gr.
Anyone make a 180 gr .333?
Does Bertram make .333 bullets?
I guess .338 projectiles might be sizable down to .333.
I wish custom barrels were possible for the Mauser M03.
Lastly what is the .338 Sabi?
The .333 Jeffery with a 250 gr at 2500 to 2700 fps and a 300 gr at 2200 fps plus is pretty effective sounding.

As mentioned in earlier posts.....The .333Jeffery is a specialized cartridge. Very effective for even the bigger ones if the hunter can choose time & place. I wouldn`t mind hunt a buffalo with such caliber ofcouse backed up with a heavy double.
If one should make a shortcut to ".333Jeffery" a .300grain .338cal bullet to a downsized 9,3x64 could be an option. However if one really wants the real thing there is only one way with no shortcuts. It is rewarding to own, shoot and use the real original caliber. I believe(of what I know) we are 3-4 people here in Europe who activly uses this caliber.

I'd have no problem hunting a big water buffalo bull with a .318 WR with 250 gr Woodleighs, SP or FMJ. Or a .333 or .338 with 250 grs or 300 gr Woodleighs SPs or FMJs.
I plan to size down some 250 gr FMJs to .323 to match the .323 250 gr Woodleigh SPs. If it works for FMJs and they aren't structurally damaged. Use my 8x68S for buffalo. Not worried about any back up. If not the 250 grs a 220, 200 or 196/198 gr FMJ , A-frames will do as the same weight SP.
If shit happens, it happens.
I've got a 10-bore and .404 to use first next though.
BUT GREAT to see you still using the .333 Jeffery. A true vintage classic warrior.

Predominantly african game. I have had the rifle with me on a few danish/swedish hunts but no hunters luck occured..:LOL
In generel when other see the long bullet sticking out of the case and they hear it weighs 300grain they think deep penetration. I have 2 times experienced the bullets were stuck in the skin when shooting lenghtwise on game. This was on a warthog and impala.
The woodleighs are really soft. Make no mistake about this. They expand rapidly and propel the intestines into mush.
MOst hunters I have met in Africa sees this cartridge as a classic "African cartridge". It is expensive to have a rifle made or to buy an original. Its expensive to shoot too. When this said if one shoots this caliber 20-40 times a year there ought to be room financially. But I guess what abstain people for having such cartridge is the price. One can buy a .338Win and shoot 4x more.
I shot this rifle the first year I had it a lot to gain experience. But after this I really only use it for travel. I haven`t shot it in over 3 years now due to shortage of ammo. I have enough for another safari(45 rounds) but from there I must get new supplies of .333cal bullets. I have resized .338 250grain sierras which I have yet to try. Lancaster did a great job making a downsizing tool. The bullets are ready to be loaded. I am in process to order one more last supply of bullets. From here I should have enough until the eternal huntinggrounds calls.

Here a warthog with a frontalshot. The 300grain bullet made a nasty belly exit. Almost gutted..:LOL

If we all only worried about cost, wed all use a .308 for everything.
The .330 Dakota (338) is the modern wannabe of the .333 Jeffery.
A .338/06 and .338 Win Mag modern more commonly available. 8.5x63, the defunct Euro variant.
The .333 Jeffery and .318 Westley Richards the originals.
If/ when Woodleigh resumes manufacture of projectiles, we will be able to feed these rifles again.
