Do you believe he killed it with a knife ?.
My opinion which could be wrong is that the Buffalo finally expired from the shots.
Not taking anything away from the sons bravery.

Quite possibly. However, he did muster the courage to enter the fray armed only with his knife. Brave lad.

A good example that some people have the presence of mind to adapt to a situation like this, and some don't.
As always, there is the old debate about double vs bolt gun. In this case I would say the client with the .375 was the weak link.
I see more and more videos of shots being taken at buffalo through brush.
Is this becoming more common for any particular reason or just more hunters filming their hunts?

I have never hunted Cape buffalo so I may be full BS when I say this....but if the kid can get close with the knife then the rifleman should have been able to also... I know I would have tried...Standing back and shooting increases the chance of the down person getting hit. Moving in to contact range seems to be the only way for the rifleman to act.

Tinker - "Always carry a good knife!" That and make damn sure the buf's been hit numerous times with a large caliber rifle - preferably in a vital area. That said, the client was waaaay over his head, scared stupid, couldn't shoot worth sour owl chit, pigheaded, and totally panicked. Maybe he should have started off on something a little less dangerous - like a Dik-dik.
The .375 has accounted for a lot of animals, but here's a case where a larger caliber in a bad part of the animal's anatomy might have slowed it down a bit more.
That said, the son was real brave.
FWIW: My last buf fell to my .458 Lott. Worked as advertised.

Interesting arvo that one and it shows as a tough old world out there in the bush with the buffs.
I am surprised that at least from the cam angle in the slow mo shots that the shot/shots taken weren't placed into the bulls shoulder as the fella was on the ground.There seemed to be a great opportunity for such.
Did I see the fella close his bolt/firing pin on that live round when he was giving the spiel?

Imagine how quick it could have been over if 1,the client could shoot and 2 the Son had a 500 in his hands instead of a knife ?.

Looks like he pushes the shell down into the magazine in the rear and then the front as he closes the bolt.
Upon watching the film a couple times, I think the blade doesn't go in any more than a couple inches.
Not knocking the son's courage, just can't see the knife being the tool that did the buff in.

Saw this video many months ago as an advert for 'the knife' manufacturer. Classic case of too many cooks in the kitchen.
Best outcome would have been to shoot the client first, send the sons home to mow the lawns and do the dishes or some other useful chore, and then the PH just get on and place a bullet properly where it will drop the animal.
This sort of thing doesn't inspire me to go to Africa it really has the opposite effect. I like my hunting personal, not every man and his dog trooping along for the ride with a client who runs like a baby at the first sign of trouble.

Poprivit mentioned about the Dik-Dik, I think this guy (not really sure if he is one) was the Dik-Dik Head-Head and even if he had no backbone to help, why didn't he give the rifle to some-one who could.
Eagle27 says it correctly, too many cooks in the kitchen but a client or not, HE (still not sure) would have had a long walk back to the airport if it was me. I would have liked to be the fly on the wall of the vehicle on the way back to camp as I am sure his heritage would have come into question.

I doubt the knife was the cause of the buff dying but who knows. I think the buff eventually succumbed to the shots. Brave son though going in with the knife.
I think the knife was emphasised for commercial gain, and not surprising the bit mentioned about the advert.
Its simple, some people freeze up. The client whom froze and didn't shoot, nor give up his rifle. The other client whom shot the buffalo four times in the gut to avoid shooting the PH on the ground with the buff above. Instead of moving closer, different angle to put a shot in a better place. I think a brain shot or spine shot would have been needed, but four rounds through the chest, shoulders, heart would have been far more effective.
Fact is these things happen quickly and it is easy to say "do this, or that" watching a video.
Best thing would have been for a client to get closer and place the shots better, and maybe for the son to not have a huge knife, instead another .458 Lott.
The father/PH I think showed good judgement in not shooting and potentially hitting his son, getting infront of a client, but getting knocked by the buff instead. Good to see he came through it not too badly hurt.

When I hunted Buffalo my PH said "no matter what your brain tells you ,shoot only for the brain if charged.Shooting him anywhere else will only make him faster".
He has been tossed and has a healthy respect for them.

I remember reading a famous buffalo hunter whom advised shooting for the "bottom of the V" on the chest if charging, and the buff would drop. But at closer range, the brain.

Even if you missed a shot for the brain there is a good chance of hitting the spine or non vital (but often debilitating) parts of the head anyway.

Amazing - appeared to me the lad's strikes were too high, up in the steaks for the lungs - too much depth of meat in that area. Is this possibly correct? Anyway - to me, it looks a bit high. He certainly has or had balls, didn't he.
Client seemed quite normal for many I've hunted with or saw in camp - not all, mind you, just many of them. Most are not hunters - here.

Joe, What cartridge uses him in his rifle?, "has seemed to understand that the 458 Lott?," the cartridge was ineffective in Buffalo?, I am glad that in the end everything will be in a fright.
