NT SSAA BGRC 2011 Titles Shoot
      #182132 - 22/05/11 08:29 AM

This event was well-organised and heaps of fun! Thanks to all the people that made it happen! I have some photographs, but am not sure about all the names and rifle details. It was good to meet Dane and Tony, and many other people with excellent taste in firearms. A highlight for me was experiencing shooting a couple of double rifles for the first time. Mick kindly thrust a double .475 NE into my hands just in time for me to line-up with the other fellows in the double rifle competition. I couldn't figure-out how to open the rifle quickly enough once the shooting started, and I only got eight out of twelve rounds away. So, imagine my happy surprise when I found that I'd won a bronze medal for my first time handling and shooting a double! I think that's telling me something... I just wonder if my wife will feel the same way... Dane and Mick gave me a few pointers for searching for the right double and importing it into the country, and for surviving the wrath of the missus! Later, I was able to have a couple of shots out of Mick's double .577 NE. Recoil seemed no worse than my .416 Rigby. Those doubles point really well, and get on target more quickly than my bolt-action. It was a massive day, waking-up at 0300 to travel from Katherine, and arriving back at about 1830, but it was well worth-it. I've never been to a rifle shoot before, and am looking forward to many more. There were many happy winners during the closing ceremony, with Tony winning the overall competition, and Dane winning, I think, the Nitro-for-black competition. I was also able to place second in Group 2 Nitro with the .416 Rigby.

Well done Ben, it is addictive, isn't it? We'll have to find you a nice double I think.

So that was the NT NGRC Championships? I've shot at the ground with Marrakai a few years ago.

I like the photos of the doubles and the other rack as well.

The trophy looks interesting too.

Thanks for posting the photos and story.

Yep, it is addictive. It wouldn't do to get down the end of the track and never have hunted with a double... I think I will be picking your brains, John, about that. It was indeed the NT BGRC championships, even though officially there is no club. I think the event itself was a guage of interest, and it had a good turn-out, with some fellows away interstate or at the Katherine Races. John M, I am treading dangerously...

Good to see a great time was had by all.

Just on DR , I have a great excuse not to purchase one as left handed DR are too hard to find.

What's the main differences?

Butt stock/cheekpiece?
Grip?
Position of the lever, if top lever, would open to the right, not the left?
Position/off setting of each trigger, if double triggers?

Other?

I have trouble finding a shotgun to fit NitroX so a DR would be the same I think.
Most have a cast (I think you call it) for a right hander.

As to triggers and levers, that wouldn't worry me.
