It doesn't cover all of your requests but one that is like a "Bible" for double rifles is Graeme Wrights "Shooting the British Double Rifle"

.

AS a novice within DRs, I can recommend an artical from GunDigest 1985 where Jack Lott explains the 4 major actions for double rifles in general. This artical he writes, is in favor for Jones Underlevers, but he do explain about the others too.

Graems book is a good but for the advanced reloader, but does to some point explains doublerifles.

W.W.Greeners book "The gun and it´s developmet" does too explain the different action styles in general of the breakaction doublegun. There is not one singlebook that goes deep in doublerifle actions only for the exception of " Building doublerifles of shotgun actions" perhaps.

If its British guns you're interested in the "British Shotgun" books by Crudgington & Baker might be useful. They address the numerous shotgun patents of the late 19th century but they equally apply to double rifles. I think they're being reprinted soon through Safari Press. The early printings had a few mistakes that hopefully will be corrected in the reprints.

BUNDUKI,Unfortunately there is not, to my knowledge, one book that covers all you are looking for! It is a real shame but that is the case nonetheless! Also in many publications most have some serious misinformation in them.

There are a few books that tend to cover only one name rifle like the The Hammerless Double Rifle by Alexander Grey. This book is long out of print and is a collector item often selling for over $800.00 USD. On top of that it deals only with Holland & Holland double rifles, and leaves a lot to be desired in the descriptions of the different action types.

There are people on this website, and Accurate Reloading website that are capable of writing such a book, but till one of them decides to write it, the written information in one source is very lacking.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help, but as of now that is the lay of the land as far as I know!

Bunduki - "The British Sporting Gun and Rifle" by Donald Dallas is excellent, with action descriptions as well as mouth watering pics!

At GBP 60 - $?? it is not cheap but well worth it
Try Amazon, they were/are giving 30% discount on many of the top rifle/gun/gunmakers books (including that one) There are often second hand copies available,(I bought the Purdey History for GBP12 - $18 - instead of the GBP60) They recommend similar books also, well worth a browse. Many are quite reasonable and worth a punt even if not exactly what you want

Abebooks .de ship worldwide but you will need the exact title, many U.S. booksellers advertise with them

Hope this is of some help, once you get to enjoy the better books you may well be hooked!

BUNDUKI
I suggest you get a copy of The Express Rifle by Saul Braceras
ISBN number 84-609-1291-4 forward by Tony Sanchez Arino and the English text checked by Paul Roberts of W J Jeffery & Co
it has every thing you ask for as well as load information
there is a problem for me with this book in that it is bi-lingual. Spanish and English. If I was ever going to learn Spanish this is the book.Every time I open the book I always seem to look at the Spanish text first
This book covers nearly all the information you need in selecting, owning and shooting a double rifle.

As mentioned by RJW the British Shotgun Vol 1&2 by Ian Crudgington & David Baker are great reference books and there will soon be a 3rd volume.Safari Press are printing a 3 volume set to be released later in the year.

good shooting
