Luxury Classic Tented Safari

HHK Safaris is now offering a classic, luxury, mobile tented safari option whereby hunters can book a mobile camp in the ways of years gone by.

Experience the aura of an authentic African safari in the heart of big five country in the same manner and style as such legends as Frederick Courtney Selous and Theodore Roosevelt. Our exclusive, quality, tented safari, offers all comforts and amenities including a private bathroom with specially designed flush toilet en-suite.

In days gone by, according to tradition, on a safari the professional hunter would scout a specific hunting area before the arrival of his guests, with the requested bag of species in mind. Next, the entire camp, along with a compliment of experienced of staff, would be transported into the area and set up at the selected site.

With over 4 million acres of unspoiled wilderness under our control, we can tailor make a safari for you, taking in a number of different areas and species.

I believe these classic tented safaris are run by Pierre van Wyk.

He is a quality operator.

They are run by Pierre amd in conjunction with HHK due to loss of private lands. You will be given the Royal treatment on this type of safari or for that matter, any with Pierre and HHK.

That would be great if you you had 4 to 8 weeks to kill, and the money to back it up.

Most of my quicky safaris consist of leaving camp in the morning in the dark, eating lunch in the bush, returning to camp after dark. I wonder when one is suppose to enjoy all these amenities???!!

Look at the size of that dragonfly! How lucky to get it caught on film.

This should qualify for the TV show "Livestyles Of The Rich and Famous". Wish I had that kind of money.

It is actually much more than the usual daily rates, $200 per day on top I believe.

I just want to track game each day, drink some water, and eat a slice of bread and an apple for dinner. Personally I do not want to have to pack a tuxedo for dinner each night. When I hunt in the US, I sleep on the ground (in a sleeping bag due to temps.), and I only put up a one man tent if I think it will snow or rain.

I don't think anyone in these camps would be wearing dinner jackets.

How often do we hear "I want to hunt from a traditional tented camp" and here we have it.

Now everyone wants to sleep in the ashes with bugs for company.

Personally I prefer great hunting as a priority but don't mind a comfortable camp at the end of the day. I'm sure they could find some chipped enamel mugs and plates if crystal and porcelain is not to your liking.

As these camps are setup in prime hunting concessions you get both.

I know these camps were setup to cater for a market where hunters wanted a traditional feel to their camp, with modern facilities and in areas of great hunting. Why not? If people want it, they can have it.

On one of my recent Safaris, I showed up for dinner wearing my hunting clothes, but with a camo bow tie, and cumberbund. Our hosts got a big kick out of it.

After a long dusty day of hunting the last thing I want to do is sleep on the hard ground.

When I get back to camp, I want a hot shower, a cold drink (or two, or...) a good meal, a fire to bullshit around and then a real bed and no bugs. I don't care if it is in a tent or a lodge.

rule 1) no bugs
rule 2) showers (hot/cold/whatever)

other than that... I'm pretty flexible... looks like a grand experience!

I know of a couple of tented camps in SA that is very luxurious.I will never take a client to a scimpy camp exept if that is the instruction of the client. The average camps in SA is fairly decent and with no bugs.I think the kind of camp me and NitroX stayed in was fairly decent if not great. When I hunt for myself I don't really care what I eat and were I sleep. As long as I don't die from thirst or hunger I'm happy.A tented camp just brings back the feeling of old africa and how the big boys did it in the old days.We have "semi" tents here as well.Concrete floor covered with tiles or proper wood and then with wooden sides about waist high and only from there on and up you get the canvas from the tent. This makes it possible to have a permanent tent on suite and full house.I'll see if I can get some pics to post.

I guess I miss the point. How does this differ from the places you usually stay at?

I've been told that any hunt in Tanzania will be like that because no permanent structures are allowed after the season closes. And, yes, I also require a shower at the end of the day as my years advance. When I was 9 I thought being tough was cool. I hope I've learned something since then, even though if I must rough it I still can. Just'd rather not! BTW, even tented camps these days have showers, I've been told. Certainly the one in Mozambique in '00 did.

Anyway, all safaris can be fun. Tent safaris, hut safaris, lodge safaris are all great. It all depends on the hunter's attitude, I guess.

Just give me good hunting, and after that,a hunting car that doesn't break down every ten miles, thatch, and mosquito net over my cott, and a shower, pleanty of good food, and I'm a happy man! I do like flush toilets in my thatched hut, but I can live with a long drop if I have to.

I'm with you Ann, except I also need a couple of decent cigars. It makes the bullshitting around the "Ranger T.V." go better.

Cheers,
