I previously posted this Fiddleback Maple stock after my mate John Wasson in NM (US) made it for my 308 NM which incidentally had been re chambered to 358NM. So I subsequently purchased a `98 commercial in 270W and had it re chambered /rebarreled to 308NM the work done by Col Crittendon at Glenrowan Vic. Its 26" TSE SS barrel is for some late arvo deer ambushes along with the 4-12 Swaro scope.
John W is an amateur rifle builder that delves in a bit of stock work and I believe he has done a great job as a self taught man and as he said to me this stock was sent to you to be used and if it gets scratched etc so be it..its not to be a safe queen just because it has some nice wood on it. I believe there are 50 odd coats of hand rubbed oil on the timber and it changes colour as it moves in the light.
Next step is to have here Cerakoted and then out into the bush..cant wait!

Hi Gryphon,
Looks real good, that will be a very nice deer rifle for sure. What color are you intending to Cerekote the metalwork.?

I've made a couple of stocks in maple, one particullarly striking in birds-eye. I would suggest mid-blue / black for the colour of the metal, providing a nice contrast. JMHO --- John303.

I have liked the idea of a grey or the light green though the darker shades might be best..its almost worth consulting the fashion experts....women!

Like John303, I like the Traditional rich look of Rust Blue and timber but that also can have the Clear Cerakote finish over the top of BOTH giving the best of both worlds,

Rifle has good lines, but I would prefer a dark stain to highlight the wood's grain.
A rust blue finish on the steel is my preferred metal finish. I do not know what Cerakote is, but looks to be a protective covering, like clear-cote? Rust blue needs no covering, just some oil.

Hi Daryl,
I agree with you but a lot of Sambar hunters want a rifle that is impervious to all weather, Cerakote is a metal / wood finish that is like Parkerising but also comes in Clear.

Sniper grey is a good colour if you want a dull metal finish it may be what you are after. Good luck with it, a great conundrum to have!

I love maple and your mate has done a good job of putting that together and in a great cartridge. Please post pics of the finished article.
