WANTED...a place to hunt in Kentucky
      #178986 - 13/04/11 03:52 PM

My oldest son lives in north-central KY (Sheppherdsville) and needs help.

A few years ago, I built a .416 Taylor for him. He shoots it (a LOT!), at Knob Creek Range. Since we developed a really good cast bullet load (350gr. RCBS at 1800fps), he shoots it even more.

But, he has tired of killing bowling balls, bowling pins, water-filled milk jugs, ice blocks, watermellons, cantelopes, etc. (you would be amazed at the things people shoot at Knob Creek) and wants to get some meat for the family - preferably deer, but pig would do nicely.

However, he has not been successful in locating areas where he can hunt. Any area up there that is "open" to hunters either have no game or have WAY too many hunters per acre!

Anybody out there have any suggestions/solutions???

Reggie

My only suggestion is to save up.

I've never been to Kentucky, northern or otherwise. If it's anyplace like I've been, telling farmers you're after pigs is better than saying you want to hunt deer for free.

Getting together with 9 other similarly-minded guys who are willing to pony up some bucks provides an even more pursuasive argument.

I live close to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area (http://www.lbl.org/) which has a large deer/turkey population and allows hunting on a quota basis. It is located on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Barkley Lake and Kentucky Lake on the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers.

I perhaps should have noted that the Land Between the Lakes Recreation Area consists of 170,000 acres, devoid of human habitation.
