Nice figure in the Butt area.

Not an expert on wood so can't comment on use.

Amazing quality....

I would recommend ARMAS PARKEMY in Spain (Eibar).
They have done exclent work on fine guns for me....

Mike

The fact that it hasn't been cut up yet for a shotgun (ie Butt and Foreend).

Is that because it is still drying / has just come out of drying or had they thought it was suitable for a Bolt Action rifle ?

Re using it for a Bolt Action rifle, do you think it has straight enough grain where required ?

Taking advantage of the curve in the growth rings, one could make a striking double barreled muzzleloading stock- with good strength through the wrist onto the forend wood, perfect.

The curve in the grain might be too much to match the wrist and run straight down the forend for a modern rifle stock, not sure. Would have to see overlays on it to be certain.

There appears to be enough wood in the butt section to make a splinter of the same wood as the butt of a modern 2 piece stock.

Scale (size of the blank) is difficult for me to see/visualize - I'm not a stock maker - but have made a few or more from blanks.

That was my initial thought but you are right, you need to have an overlay over it to see properly.

It's perfect for an English-styled 1/2 stock, percussion gun though. A 1/2 stocked flinter needs a 2 key forend - which needs a longer forend.

Steve Zihnn could turn that into a masterpiece, as-could Dan Pharris.

Mike,
That's a nice looking piece of wood and would make a great double gun stock. You haven't really told us much about it, though. What are the measurements of the blank? How long has it been drying, and is it hard enough and strong enough to work for your intended project? What is the asking price? It Looks like a piece that should be bought if everything else suits you about it.

Birdhunter it is potentially for a 12 bore pigeon gun, I am having it sent somewhere to check "dryness" etc but it is being offered me by a very good friend in the gun trade (he has been in it all his life) price is $1200. It was cut 7 years ago I believe, best, Mike

Looks like a nice stick of wood, Curious fiddle pattern and potential knot areas, but alot of folks love that stuff. Try Luxus walnut and ask for Clay if you still have time, he has wonderful circassian and great prices for high end clients like yourself.

PM me if you need any help.

I agree with Daryl "It's perfect for an English-styled 1/2 stock, percussion gun though. A 1/2 stocked flinter needs a 2 key forend - which needs a longer forend." I am getting ready to start a 8bore English percussion project. Kinda a mouse to moose gun. If you don't decide not to buy the blank I know a shot gunner friend that would be interested in it. Really enjoy watching your builds.
