I think it was posted somehwere.

It has already sold for - I think $395.

Oooooppppps, $295 as Mike said.

What happened to the 505 Gibbs he used, anyone know ?

Gryph, it´s been up here, I think it went for about US$275k PLUS premium of 15% so US$316k in total !! someone is a Hemingway lover. There is a bloke living in Montana who seems to make a specialityof collecting Hemigway guns, he has three or four, see the latest book "Hemingways Guns" by Calabi et al, not a bad read, best, Mike

I'd never heard he owned one, though he has the PH with a "short, ugly, shockingly big-bored .505 Gibbs" in 'The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber'.

Did he use it in Africa? I don't recall it mentioned in the books on his own safaris.

He didn´t own one though a mate had one they tried out at Abercrombie& Fitch, if the story is true, that story was the basis for all the tales of collar bone breaking .505s though as Frank Barnes said, "the British must have been made of different stuff since they didn´t seem to have these problems"......best
