375 H&H Cast Loads
      #17757 - 10/08/04 08:21 AM

New member here... and am a long time reloader... However, I've never loaded ANY cast bullets for my double rifles and want to start with my .375... There seems to be a lot of opinions, myths and even some rumors regarding cast bullets, hardness, velocitie, etc...

Has anyone loaded cast bullets for a .375 (or a big-bore in general).

What velocity ranges do you reccomend?
How do you distinguish between "harnesses" (without consulting labs and MOHS scales)
Are there any pressure differences between cast and jacketed bullets?

I don't want to "pour my own" - but am looking for a starting point without blowing something up!

your insight and experience would be greatly appreciated.

chris

Hey New Guy,

I don't know, but I have also been curious about using some hard-cast flat nose bullets in my 9.3x74R. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but like you, I don't really know that much about cast bullets.

Hopefully, we'll both be able to figure it out here...

I haven't tried any yet, but since I began this quest, I have found a supplier of "heavier-than-normal" cast bullets. For example he has 375 bullets in 320gr.

Shoot him an email and he'll forward you a bullet list.
