This rifle (I belive unless he had another 577...) figures rather promiently in his last/unfinished novel "True at First Light" about this disasterous 1953-54 safari. Leading to one of his more memorable line, "There is nothing wrong with Senator McCarthy that a .577 bullet would not fix."

He certainly didnīt shoot the buff with the .577, promo picture I think, he didnīt like it and didnīt shoot it well. I remember somewhere one of his wives telling someone he tried to ring a church bell with it in Italy or Spain and missed, from all accounts he was never a big bore fan, best, Mike
