I handled one in the G&H showroom some time ago. I don't believe it's an original or even a recent design. I suppose it is the answer for those who think that the gape of the over and under/superposed design is objectionable.

great story on this, they got about 40 barreled actions in the white from years ago made by the original chaps and in storage for 30 odd years, I phoned up 18 months or so ago when I found out G&H had them but they wouldn´t sell me just an action in the white and they wanted 40 thou for a complete gun. I still think they look great. A friend has shot an old one and liked it but did say the loading and ejecting took some getting used to. All the actions steel is obviously over 40 or 50 years old as well, best

This design makes for a real sleek O/U. I like it.

If memory serves, this design is of Belgian origin - I think by Aug. Lebeau. I believe it was featured in an article in The American Rifleman years ago.

I think these guns are ultra-cool.
It's not a new design.
I'd love to have one, but I won't pay the price.

Cheers

It doesn't look like a very practical design.

I think it looks slow and hard to reload quickly. The shotgun to me looks like it would become unbalanced as soon as the action was broken.

Or is one meant to tip it to the side when opening it?

I haven't handled one though.

Also I think the fore-end is horrible.

The fore end is shallow as it should be for good natural pointing but does seem a bit long and the decoration/chequering a bit naff.

I don't think it as slow as some might think. Throw the lever and twist your wrist and the barrels drop down, exposign the extracted cases (or ejects them) just like a side by side. Load, snap together (probably) as normal and it locks, twisting the wrist again as you do so. Seems it would be little different than a side by side - very similar, except wonderfully narrow and delightfully shallow as well. It would/should be an extension of your hands, just as a fine splintered double would be, especially for that first barrel, the bottom one.

The Double Gun Journal used to have an add in them from someone that was making belt buckles that copied this action. They were quite expensive.

I just ran across the illustration I was thinking about in Gough Thomas's Gun Book - Shotgun Lore for the Sportsman, page 74. It is attributed to Lebeau-Courally.

I would think for a right handed shooter, if you load the shells with your left hand you would have to roll the gun counter clockwise 90 degrees to drop the cases in the chambers. I shoot left handed and always drop the shells in with my right hand, maintaining my left hand on the grip. besides it doesn't appeal to me!

There's a photo of a Superbritte on page 30 of "Hemingway's Guns", taken in 1930 in Spain.
