total bummer, no pheasant/quail until 11-6 in NE....

guess I might have to actually hunt some grouse this year... too bad they taste like ass....

But at least you have wild birds out there to shoot. No game birds to speak of in the mid-atlantic region unless you buy them at a preserve or have a lease for a duck blind....

What kind of grouse you got out there? I used to hunt ruffs alot and they taste very good.

ruffs for the most part... but their diet is such that it really kills the taste in most areas...

What do they eat out there?

In AK they ate aspen buds and catskills, and various berries and buds. They were much better than the spruce grouse which tasted, well like spruce trees...

sagebrush.... or whatever else they can find!

that's not entirely true, but they eat enough of it that really mucks up the flavor... the Mule Deer are the same out in teh sandhills...

I have hunted pheasant many times about an hour and a half west of you in a town called Sutton.

some of the finest people and certainly some of my fondest memories of bird hunting.

our drives oft times turned to mad scrambles for the trucks if we happened to kick up a coyote and the chase was on!

what a blast!!!!
