The club that I belong to is a shooting club here in Helena.
Its called THE PRICKLY PEAR SPORTMENS CLUB. They have a real nice shooting
range here. A 25, 50, 100, and a 300 yard range the dues are 25 dollars a
year. Anybody Can belong to this club as long as you pay your dues. The
range is under lock and key so each member is given a key to get into the
range. We must lock it up when we enter and leave the range to keep
non-members from using the club.
Of course I also belong to S.C.I.

I belong to the Safari Club International, and used to belong to the South Pacific branch. They have just dropped out of the SCI and so I am now "branch-less". Seeing they were based in Sydney, a 12 hour drive away, meant I didn't really attend meetings anyway.

I also belong to the Australian Deer Association, a deer hunting club in Oz.

The Sporting Shooter Association of Australia as well. I want to investigate th Big Game Rifle Club which looks interesting. Though I prefer fur, feathers and hide to paper

And I used to belong to the Field & Game Association, a duck and quail hunting club, who also runs simulated field clay target shoots. My membership lapsed. I must renew it.

Also "belong" to a club which shoots locally. Trap, skeet and simulated field shoots in a simgle day. Just for fun once or twice a year. Followed by a dinner and informal fun awards. Everyone gets a prize.

BF, Will look into these and see about membership for you.

I was also a member of the South Pacific Chapter of SCI but I must confess that, over the years, I was an 'on-again-off-again' sort of member. This was mostly because membership was never cheap and some of the people running SCI treated it as a 'old boys' club to the detriment of the club and many of its' members.

I was particularly disappointed (and disgusted) when the SCI, the SSAA and the Nepean Hunters Club came to blows over the running and administration of the Sydney 'shot-show' and hunting convention. Over the past couple of years the convention had been growing and improving rapidly and then, almost overnight, some form of disagreement has completely destroyed an excellent showcase for the shooting sports in this country.

Now I do not understand the politics but, partly as a result of the problem above as well as a falling out with the parent US organisation, the South Pacific Chapter has ceased to exist and was going to be replaced with a new organisation but with, essentially, the same people and attitudes of the past.

However, a number of ex-SCI members, who are obviously dissastisfied with this situation are meeting at Port Macquarie this weekend to form a new organisation to follow on where the SCI left off. I am not even sure what they plan on calling this new organisation but I intend to follow this up and look into membership. If anyone is interested I'll have some more details on this situation, at the end of this weekend, and I can give an update on the new organisation.

Bob

Yes please post some info after the meeting. I received an invitation to join a new "Sydney" SCI branch and also a "renewal" application from the ex-"South Pacific" branch. . I am also interested in what the group you mention intend to do.

I believe there is already a branch of SCI - the Melbourne Chapter. Realistically Melbourne is a lot more sensible for me as I go there 2 to 4 times per year, and Sydney only once every year or two. What do you know about them? If you don't want to post it here, send me an email.

Also I believe you are a member of the Sydney branch of the Big Game Rifle Club. A friend and I have been wanting to get over to the Melbourne shoot for a while. Plan to make it later this year if possible.

If the "SHOT" show is dead thats a real shame. Is this the case, and one won't be held next year in February as usual? I was hoping to go next year. I must say I thought it was disappointing that it was always held at the same venue instead of moving around the country each year as was once the case. But it also became a big event.
