Pc Won't load.
      #174511 - 31/01/11 05:15 PM

My 6yo Desktop must be nearing the end of it's life as something is wrong.

When I start it up, all is fine. I can then load one application eg gmail or a web site saved to desk top. When I have finished that, I can no longer open anything from my desktop, nor can I open Google to try another approach.

I can go to the Start menu and close or restart the PC without delay or problems.

Any suggestions ? Have I cooked the memory ? got a Virus ? (I use up to date Norton 2011) or is it me ?

Hi Tophet1,

Have you done some-thing to your wife as computers were designed by women to infuriate men.... Just joking.

I would do a scan of the hard drive (defrag) after you have emptied the rubbish bin, deleted all cookies. Then try it again. Sometimes the opening / Closing of files builds up in the Cookie department.

Once that is done, get onto the Norton site and get the latest release then do a scan and see what that finds.

See if you can get a copy of Spybot Search & Destroy, it is a Free download that looks for tracking cookies and the like. Just Google it.

Hope that this at least give you a starting point,

Cheers for now,

Jeff Gray

Deleting Cookies did it. Many Thx.

( I was looking forward to buying a new PC though )

Not an IT expert.

Try running a full virus scan with your up to date s/w.

All the applications you mention are all a browser aren't they, ie gmail, google etc?

Do other programs work OK?
