The Boy's Second Deer
      #171568 - 17/11/10 04:04 PM

My middle son's kill last weekend, a scant 9 days after his 7th birthday (last year he killed his first deer a few days before his 6th birthday). So far the kid has fired two shots at big game animals and subsequently made two one-shot kills at 85 or 90 yards. After he shot this one I figured out I had the scope dialed down to 2x but it didn't affect his shot placement at all. For the record, his big brother elected to sleep in the two weekends that we hunted...this one apparently has the drive to go along with the hand-eye coordination.

Shot made with a 7mm-08 Ruger Frontier, shooting 139-grain Hornady Interbond at ~2,850 fps.

Does SCI give Gold Medal for Smile? He got it...

By the way that smile guarantees that you will have someone to take you hunting when you are 80 something!!!

Congratulations to both of you! Love the smile on the young man's face and the only bigger smile, I think, would be the one of pride on yours as you took the picture!

Good hunting and best wishes for many, many fine hunts together!
