8mm Iranian Mausers

G'Day Fella's,

I see on www.usedguns.com.au "Whats New" there are a Pair of Iranian Mausers, in 8mm for sale.
They are described as being in as new and unfired condition and the asking price is $1800.00 Oz$, each!

What made me bring this to your attention was. About 13 years ago I was employed at a local gun shop and a customer brought in a "Persian Mauser", in as new and possibly unfired condition. The owner wanted me to drill and tap the receiver ring and bridge and then mount a scope base on it!

I told the boss that this would be bordering on vandalism!
Bruce agreed and contacted the owner, about me doing this to such a stunning piece of history!
The answer came back to do as was originally requested!
I can still remember setting up and drilling the holes through the (I think) Iranian Crest of Arms, that was stamped onto the top of the receiver ring!!!

I don't know my geography or history that well but if I remember correctly, Iran was Persia at one stage? So the current advertised rifles and the one I vandalised may be the same lot of rifles?

At an asking price of $1800.00, I wonder what the owner might think of his decision now???!!!

There is also a Brno G33/40 short barrel for $3k!

Could have picked one up last year at a gun show for $500 in VG+ condition. BRNO actions I believe........Harold

The Persian Brnos are beautiful rifles and the iranians build some very nice sporters on the action these days in 8mm, 7mm 270 and 30-06. I have some pictures from an Iranian hunting enthusiast who now lives in Amsterdam, and I shall locate them and post them here. There's some great sheep hunting in that country as well, from what friends have told me. Sadly, the political situation makes Iran known for all the wrong reasons.
