Fallow season is on us!
      #1684 - 17/02/03 01:42 PM

The bucks have rubbed and the velvet is in tatters.

The young spikers rubbed one to two weeks ago and the older bucks have rubbed and are now in exposed hard antler.

The boys are thrashing the bush and are sparring.

The rut is not that far away.

Fallow hunting season for 2003 is back on us. Yea.

I hunt fallow in Tas and there is no rut hunting down there at all not like the other states where it seems to be ok,talk about make it a lot easier to harvest a good one.Now is the time to bowl one for meat as i reckon you cant get better than a fat fallow buck just out of velvet

Fallow are a very beautiful deer species. You guys are lucky to have them running lose in the countryside. I can get them here in my state but only from a fenced preserve.

NitroX,

Seasons are, for the most part closed here, although black bear is open and, with the unbelieveably mild winter we're having, they may be out walking pretty soon. Hunting down your way would certainly be a hoot. A big Fallow buck........sounds great.

deerhunter

with the rut finishing now, now is the time the thin and tired stags need to feed up big time, else they will have a serious time over winter. And there is not a lot of good feed around still, at least not around here as it is still too dry.

So even with the rut finished don't give up yet. They will be busy feeding and for longer hours. I'm sure you know this anyway.

From your other posts sounds like you have had a good year out in the bush already so far.

NitroX,

Yes, it has been good so far, but just begun. Althou the Red & Fallow rut is over, I have at least two more Red hunts in the next two monthes. Trying to square up a Chital and Buff hunt, but may not pan out yet...

Saw your posts over at the ADA site and thought I would cruise over here. I have to be more...diplomatic at the ADA site being the webmaster and forum admin, so here I can let my hair down a little.

Ummmn..not much hair really to let down...

You are most certainly welcome here.

I know what you mean about letting ones hair down. I have trouble behaving at any time.

I love hunting reds and haven't had much opportunity to do so, so far. My first trophy deer was a red stag though. They are such majestic and impressive animals.

Yes, I would have to agree that the Reds are majestic. I would give them that crown here in Australia and if not for Elk/Wap that title for the world.
