That .50 S&W ctg. would be fun in a Ruger #1 - easy .50/90 to .50 3 1/4 Sharps ballistics from a 24" barrel.

Guys with handguns - it's a big case - be very careful with reduced 'spl' type loads - Hodgon's IMR Trail Boss may have a definite aplication in this one, for 900fps to 1,000fps range loads.

Well, I was trying to post a photo of the giraffe I took with my S&W 500 Performance Center, 10.5 inch bbl. Hornady 500-gr. bullet. However, Murphy's law struck again (and I'm Murphy). I'll try again.

Bramble - I was in South Africa in 2006 hunting with Dumukwa Safaris. The giraffe was a last minute addition. he was very old and the farmer said he wouldn't last the winter. Rough measurement - 2400 lb, 18'6" Very large animal!

My friends, who have this friendly "Who has the biggest handgun" competion going on have a 454 Casull 7" or so barrel, 454 Casull Alaskan 2 1/2" barrel, 150 AE Desert Eagle, and 500 S&W. Of all of these the 500 S&W has the least recoil, but in my opinion, it's so damn big I might as well carry a rifle, fun to shoot though. The 454 Alaskan has by far the most recoil. The 50 Desert Eagle is easy to shoot, still a bit big for concealed carry lol.

I'll stick with my 45 Super, but it's a blast to go shooting with these guys ...

G'Day Fella's,

In Australia, there are several target shooting pistol disciplines, that allow you to use calibers larger than .38 cal. As mentioned above, there is Western Action and Metallic Silhouette but there is also Field Pistol. I and several other locals own and use 10mm Auto, .45 ACP, Glocks and 1911 types and 44 S & W Magnum, S & W X-Frames in .460 Cal etc, etc.
So it can be achieved if you want to comply with the Firearms Regulations.

What I can't wait for is S & W or after-market gun shops, chambering the X-Frame in Rifle calibers like 7.62 x 39 etc???
