WOW! Look at the bite on the chest.

I read some years back about anthrpologists pondering what ever could have made nice round holes in the back and forehead of some of the skulls they were finding. Some even going as far as suggesting some sort of primitive surgery to let out evil spirits.
Turns out it is just the leopards preferred method of hauling off a human. Bite into the head from behind - canines sinking in above the browline - and dragging the body between the cat's legs.

That was quick and nasty in the extreme.

I've got this DVD.

A bit of a reality check.

Cheers Neale.

You can see how easy it would have been for Brittany Boddington to shoot the tracker in the "heat of the momment".

It is also said that a "shotgun is for birds".

Cheers Neale.

I was in camp in April with this PH. He was guiding a mate of mine. The double was a shot gun that has iron sights.

That was quick and nasty. Yes that is a reality check.

In my readings there are some who prefer a shotgun when going after wounded leopard as they claim it tends to get close and personal real quick.

Saw this on another forum some time ago. The video clip was longer and good quality taken off the promotional DVD.
Like many of the charges from the big cats shown on video, the mistake of standing and shooting is made. The old time professionals all promoted kneeling to get at the same level as the incoming cat and in the case of the fast moving leopard, using a shotgun with buck shot. There are some other videos around that demonstrate this well.

It would be almost impossible to stand upright and try to get enough lead on your shot with an incoming fast cat. Of course snap shots are brought off to spectacular effect sometimes with these charges but in the case of the dangerous cats you can't afford the sometimes. Getting down and personal would take some courage but that's how Taylor, Hunter, Bell etc all survived without PH or any other backup.

The PH I went with said his favourite follow up weapon on cats was his semi auto FN 308.
He had to give it up with all the hassels of being white in Zim.

Absolutely and I think that this is one situation where the old adage "when there's lead in the air, there's hope" would definitely apply.

In such a situation, looking for a pissed off leopard, I'd recommend that armed people stay in a line side by side, close to one another. This way they haven't to ascertain the position of others prior to shooting. That saves some precious time. Moreover the leopard would charge the block of people, one target only, and everybody is facing the leopard and it's easier to shoot a straight coming animal. This way, one could hope that almost eveybody can shoot and the leopard will meet a curtain of lead. Should it possibe to shoot kneeled, the better.
Tristan Peacock, leopard man, has his definitive opinion for dealing with a charging leopard, what he experienced a lot of times. First priority to the client, the client must shoot first. As it's during the hunt, no need to look for a 12 gauge. The client is using his rifle and Tristan his 416 CZ. The trick is letting the leopard coming close before shooting. He recommends 15m, 10 m being better for accuracy. In most cases, the client smashs the cat. He noticed that Europeans, who are used with running game during beat hunts, are more accurate and can wait before shooting. Usually not so with Americans who are prone to shoot as soon as they see the coming cat, and consequently missed at least their first shots. According to Tristan, there is no possible miss at short distance. He and his clients never were injured in proceeding this way.

Why thank you mate. I thought you may have interpreted my post as commentary on our short time on this earth.
