Hmm- correct me if I'm seeing things, but the lands actually engraved the shank of the bullet full length + a bit ahead of the top band but only touched the nose, which is smaller.

On the other hand, the TSX bullets only engraved on the bands, not on the body proper. Too - the base of the TSX, while longer of more bearing surface length than the bands, is of smaller diameter. This is obvious due to the amount of extruded material ion front of and behind the rear band, in comparrison to the bands themselves.

Neither would not concern me at all, personally, due to the banding, for this bullet or the TSX or banded Barnes solids, but IS contrary to statements that they don't engrave on the body ie: "main part" of the bullet.

This non-engraving of the body may be true in some guns, but definitely not all due to the difference bore and groove diameters of double guns 'out there'.

By all means, slug the bores of your guns before firing ANY bullets.

Here are two fired ones and one unfired one.
As you can see they are .422" fired from my 404,.423".

The drive bands are the only thing that touched the rifleing.

One came from a Cape Buff and the other went the full length of a Hyena and was found three feet into the dirt.

As Daryl say's there is no harm in slugging your bore.

fatboy - those looks as they should.

Friend of mine was over for coffee yesterday, complaining about Woodleigh's bullet availabiity here - the only price he can find on standard 215gr. .303 bullets is $4.00 each, landed here in PG, BC.

That's a bit much when we're used to paying $30.00 or less for 100 standard bullets. Don't even attempt to tell me that any .303 bullet is worth $4.00 each.

Daryl S
I am only guessing but 215 grain .303 bullets here would cost about $85 per 100.

That's how I am with Barnes as they run at about $3-$4 a bullet in the big stuff (.416 and up).

When I tested them for Geoff, we knew my 500/465 was slightly under size but not by much so they made them standard bore size (for 500/465) for the test. My gun just marginally touch the shank but not by much.

Had no problems with the gun and they killed emphatically.

In fact, I think Steel Jacketed solids might but more stress on the bore than these.

Woodleigh's RRP on the 215gr for the 303Brit is $35.90 per 50. If you buy direct now you get a price list. Maybe because around 2008, some gunshops were charging astronomical prices ... highest I heard was $96 per 50 for 338cal 250gr PP which was about $40 in excess at the time.

Yeah, it's unreal what some gunshops on the net charge for Woodleigh projectiles. More than double what I buy them for direct (as there is no rep here).

Con - is your location Victoria BC, Australia or where? I do not know who Keith was talking to about the $200.00 for 50, shipped.

It was just this reason for high priced bullets he had me chamber a .308 barrel to .303 on a P-14 for him, so he could use his beloved .303 with 220gr. Hornady's at 2,200fps.

I'm in Australia ... using a 30cal barrel is a smart idea. Even here, I can source Sierra 220gr projectiles at $50 per 100 compared to Woodleigh's $39 per 50. The Woodleigh is a much better projectile, but at sedate speeds its a bit of overkill. I'm currently doing a Lee Metford carbine restoration, and if the SMLE barrel that was fitted isn't a shooter after its lopped and recrowned, then a fresh 0.308" tube profiled like a Lee Metford will be fitted.
Cheers...
