I have recently had an interesting AH rifle come into my collection . The action is an AH hammer gun dated to 1887 and the barrel group is made by Fraser and addressed as such on the rib . The serial number of the action is different than the barrel group , the barrels are fluid steel and nitro weight , chambered in 400/360 Fraser . The fit and finish of the barrels to the action is perfect . The rifling is not Henry rifling and shows signs of moderate use . It seems that this was a custom re-barreling of the old AH with "new" nitro barrels by Fraser in his favorite caliber . Does anyone have any shooting experience to share with such a combination ? I have some photos I could e-mail if needed . Thanks , Jim

I own a B quality .450 Purdey rifle made in 1887 that has been re-barreled by Dan'l Fraser to 9.3x74R and modified to include ejectors. Fraser used their own number (3451) to the barrels and signed the rib as such. I have not had the chance to shoot it yet. I have seen a handful of rifles re-barreled by Fraser. I can recall one Grant. Purdey or Henry + Fraser is not a bad combination... Best regards, WC

Thanks WC ,
I was not sure how common it was to mate nitro barrels with a black powder frame . I received some brass and did run a few rounds through the rifle . It is very accurate . I slugged the bore and it takes a .366 diameter bullet consistent with the 400/360 Purdey . Loaded a light load of 44 grains of reloder 15 . Tolerated that load without evidence of primer flow and extracted the brass easily . You are right , the combination looks good . Thanks again and good luck with your Purdey , Jim

It seems like you got a winner. I'd love to see pictures. FYI, your moniker means "cheapstake" in French. Did you know? WC-

if you search a bit here, you will find my alex henry sidelock 20/577 which also have an extra barrel set in 450/400NE 3,25" made by Dan. fraser as well.
you can ask dickson and macnaughton, what the original barrels were chambered for in your A. henry, as they have the books for alex henry.
