Chapuis Rings and Bases
      #165291 - 31/07/10 06:26 AM

I just recieved a set of rings and bases for my Chapuis. They are marked with the Chapuis logo. The rings are presently attached to the bases. How do these things work? I can't seem to get them appart. Does anyone have instructions they could e-mail?

The front ring should twist off. The back ring has a lever with a lock that twists to relese it IF it's the same as mine. There are different styles of QR rings. Pics would help.

Hi Canada,

Can you please post a photo of them as there are several that would fit.

Cheers,

I can't post photos. I managed to figure out the rear ring. There is a lever with a small piece that is pushed in and the lever turns back to move the clamp of the one side so it can move from the base. If I am holding the rifle in the shooting position which way does the scope twist off. The front base is still attached to the extention ring and I do not want to turn it the wrong way. Once I find which way it twists out or turns out (rear to the right or left) my intention is to put the base in a padded vice and turn the ring off and on a few times. It seems to be on there solic as I cannot move it by hand.

It sounds like what I had on mine. It is only a 90 degree anti-clockwise for it to be removable but I think that it will also work the other way as well if the scope is not mounted but because the lever unlocks on the left side and the other part of the dovetail is on the right it goes anti-clockwise when scope is mounted. I do have to agree with you that it is almost impossible to move when off the rifle. The lever release is called a "H7" model but before you mount it check the offset of the front ring as there is about 3 or 4 which depends what scope your using as this offset is to adjust the eye relief.

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

The front ring will twist both clock wisw and counter clock wise. The leverage of the scope tube gives you all you need for the ease of the twist. The rear can be mounted both with the release lever on the right or left too. Your choice.

What a job. I spent 4 hours on the rear screw that would not budge. Tried every trick I could think of. The other screws were in there but all came out with a little tap on the end of the screw driver. The last screw I had to drill the top of the head off. I was trying to save everything intact but that last engraved screw is done. I set the mounts in. The front one was tight and I took a little off with a stone. I have just left everything alone for the night as I am done in. Thanks to everyone for their help. I am going to put the release lever on the left and pivot the front counter clockwise. I will mount a new 1x4 leupold.

Got everything mounted and a new 1x4 leupold on. It made no difference in the regulation except that I could shoot a lot better. The gun groups as the test target with Norma factroy and the width of the barrels apart with handloads using the load suggested here. What a great little double. A little light but it sure shoots and works great.

That seems to be the general consensus with the Chapuis double 9.3. Congratulations.
