Moo Cow decoy for pronghorn
      #161868 - 11/06/10 02:56 AM

Decided to pick up a Montana Decoy- Moo Cow Decoy yesterday. As a confirmed pronghorn junkie and someone who rarely will take a shot over 300 yards I decided it would be a good option for stalks where the terrain won't allow me to get close enough. Most of my pronghorn kills have been under 100 yards and I prefer it that way. Some of the video I've seen of the Moo Cow decoy in action made the case for a purchase so come fall I will carry it along in the truck and see how it works. Might be useful on some deer hunts as well. Anyone else tried one out?

There was an article on using one (cow confidence decoy) in one of last years (Nov '09) issuse of Fur-Fish-and Game. Written by a couple of guides from down in Wy. Said it worked real well for them.

Used black umbrellas once to approach cape buffalo once, imitating other buffalo. Managed to get about 600 metres closer that way completely in the open.

So do you hide inside the cow as a blind or ?

Interesting and simple. Reminds me of snow goose hunters using white flags and shopping bags staked to the ground to increase the size of their decoy spread. Laundry detergent bottles work well with a little prep work too-cut a flap to open out of the bottom(simulates a tail) and paint to match your targeted goose species. Saves a lot of money if you want to set up 100+ decoys. Either spend $6-$25 per decoy times 100, or buy 5-6 of those expensive dekes and raid your wife's/mother's/sister's empty detergent bottles and add $15 total worth of Krylon.
The cow decoy looks interesting too. Something I wouldn't have thought of.
