Elephant Kills, Then Buries Mum And Child

The Nation (Nairobi)
June 18, 2004
Kna
Nairobi

A woman and her two-year-old son were yesterday morning trampled on to death by a rogue elephant in Mukogodo Division of Laikipia District.

Lokalo Ekitela, 40, of Lekija village, was going to the market in the morning when the elephant charged.

Eye witnesses said the elephant then buried the woman and her child under a heap of foliage.

The jumbo disappeared inside Chololo Ranch after accomplishing its weird mission.

Laikipia police boss, Mr. Daniel Musau who confirmed the incident, said the bodies had been removed to Nanyuki hospital mortuary.

I have heard and read that this is not unusual and elephants have been know to bury bodies that they have come across. Anyone else heard of this?

A friend of mine was killed by an Elephant cow a few weeks ago here in RSA and before the cow left the body, she tried to cover it with branches.
