Anybody know what action this was built on. Per the serial # it looks to be 1903 or so.

Thanks

1897 Webley.
It is in Winfer's vol.6 book.
Super rare rifle but was apparently somewhat an antiquated design in it's day and did not sell well.
By not selling well, I mean less than 5 known examples!! According to the book anyway.

I would love to have this rifle...

I just checked Winfer's book and you're correct, thanks. I picked this up yesterday at the auction.

According to Atkin, Grant and Lang, it was built Nov 26, 1902 as a 360 Cordite Rifle for A.H. Morris. The cost was 12 pounds.

I have an Evans double rifle in 400/360 and I love the cartridge.

I'll report more when I receive it.

I believe I owned this rifle a number of years ago[there can't be two of these], and In fact had the restoration done. The action was re-engraved before re-coloring by Turnbull. It came out quite well, and I was loath to sell it but, something else came along ----. I remember that the bore was good, and the rifle shot well. I sold it through Julia's about 7 or 8 years ago. You bought a great rarity and a fine rifle.

All the best, SXS

SXS,

I just found the Julia's catalog. The gun sold in the Spring of 2004 auction. I'd love to know where it's been and how it made it way back to Britain.

Thanks for the information.

Guns follow the money around the world. last 10 years a lot of stuff went to the US, now some are obviously going back.
