Took 60+ pics of her yesterday. 500MM lens gets you right there, these were taken from the road. This one turned out the best, got a couple pics showing babies peeking above the edge too.

Thanks-she was cooperating very well(not hiding like at the other eagle nest I watch). It just blows my mind how we need cameras and lenses worth more than my car to see them this well(100 or so yards off) and she could probably see the print on my license plate. My only regret is the sky wasn't clearer, but I can go back anytime-the nest is 10 miles from my house.

Took this one on the way home from work tonight-about 7:00 pm. Watched for a while, looked like she was feeding babies. Different nest-there are 3 that I've been watching(2 on my route to work, one on the way to my inlaws' farm). Same lens, window of my car used as a rest to stabilize a bit better-tripods are too bulky when you're trying to use your car as a makeshift blind.

Top photo again.
Looks like a very old nest.
Any idea how many years they have been at it on this nest ?

No idea on age of the nest. Found it last year, but I got the impression it was an old nest. Will ask the landowner the next time I'm out there-I plan to take him copies of the best shots since it's "his" nest. They raised at least one baby last year. I saw that one late in the season, may heve been the only one or the older young had possibly left by then. This year, there are at least two babies-here's a shot showing those two. The second nest did produce two young that survived long enough to fly away last year, I learned of the nest just as they were leaving.

Nitro, if you like these pics you might enjoy this link-live webcam of yet another eagle nest in my area. They have 3 babies and both parents spend lots of time at the nest-I've seen their "shift change" several times. This seems to be a fairly recent nest, it's only a bit over 6 feet across. Still plenty of room for the worker who installed the cam (before the eggs were laid)to lay down across the nest. I've had the best luck seeing them feed the babies between 8:00 and 9:00 Iowa time. http://www.raptorresource.org/falcon_cams/index.html When at this page, click Decorah Eagle Cam at Luther College on the left, then click the picture of the eagle.

Thanks - look forward to having a look.
I love birds - especially raptors etc - my whole family have been into Ornithology for years and my father travels to the US to catch birds (mostly waders) every year or two.

Just tried going into the webcam-nothing but static. They either pulled it now that the babies hatched or they're doing maintenance(I hope). My wife says I'm more addicted to the nests than she is to facebook lol.

Managed to get both at the second nest today-still haven't been able to find out how old the first nest is.

If you don't understand the reference you haven't read the book. As for the wrong forum, as much as I like shooting animals for dinner there are other aspects to hunting other than killing. Sure, eagles can be scavengers but I have seen them kill things too-the male at one of the nests I watch killed a cat-made my day to hear that happened. You could call me a scavenger as well-I've put several roadkilled deer in my freezer.
