thanks for posting - really great to see the work in progress.

Nice to see the "original" Rigby lock plate shape being used again.

Two Questions for you.
1. I noticed that the "loop" part of the third bite (for want of a better word), the bit that goes over the rising third bite is not currently part of the rib.

I had always though it was made as an integral part of the rib as an extension but looking at your photos, do you solder it on or dovetail it on later ?

2. Are you going to be using bushed strikers or due to not being any real need for them now (primers don't exactly break much nowadays), are you not going to have them or only as an option ?

Would be interested to know.

I will have to get mine out (made 1905) and have a look at it and see if it has a join in it.

And one question from me, are the barrels for "show", or are they the one beeing used later on?

Thank you for the comments chaps.

500N

The "loop" part of the rib is both mechanically interlocked at its forward end and soldered into place. The mechanical strength is greater than the shear strength of the C part of the loop.
What you can see looking at the breech end at the moment is a set of dummy ejectors that are there to prevent rounding over of the ejector grooves whilst putting the gun onto face. The actual rib is one piece that extends from the loop to just after the unfinished section of the breech end of the barrels toward the muzzle as you look at it now.
If you go to the website here :

Defunct website
you can see the rib in position in the last photo.

All of the guns have disc set strikers. What you can see on the standing breach are machining reference points. Once the gun is fully on face we spot the correct striker position with a precision ground "dummy cartridge" that has a sliding center punch. ie we load it into the chamber, close the gun and tap it with a rod down the barrel.
Thus if any minor variations are caused in the hand fitting, when the strikers are finally drilled from these points they always correspond precisely with bore center.

Andreas

The barrels you see are the correct but yet to be struck up and finish chambered chopper lumps.

All The Best.

Thanks for the grat photos, keep them coming.

It was the rib/ejector part that made me confused, il bet it saves some days by the lamp.

The one in the pictures is spoken for as is the next, however we have four more following on their heels at approximately 3 week staggered intervals.

We have a batch of four B class guns (Sidelock, concealed 3rd bite, dovetail lump barrels) some 6 weeks behind these. Two of these in 500NE are spoken for. One of which is going to our Canadian distributor "Wolverine Supplies" (see web site).

We have adopted the policy of having a rolling production to try and keep waiting times as low as possible.

All Best

Your work looks like to be a masterpiece.. Looks wonderfull to see the true craftmanship, the goes into a doublegun. All the fitting, polishing are in the end what really divide a standard "run of the mill" gun and a true handmade gun of best Q.
Thanks for sharing

Do you mind showing picture of, or explanation of, exactly how that loop is mechanically joined prior to its soldering? Is it mechanically dovetailed in, vertically, horizontally, or does the mechanical joining take another form of tie joint?

that is what i call machinery in motion ,it makes me drool

and here i am looking at the action photos , wondering how the top lever operates the top locking pin
one goes across and the other up and down how do those hinges work ?
the explanations i have come up with are driving me nuts ,
the correct workings would at least put one NUT to rest
so help please
