Anybody experienced in shooting a Lancaster Colindian?
      #156631 - 16/03/10 07:50 AM

like to hear from someone who has a Lancaster Colindian (smooth oval bore rifling-full length), has experience using bullet mold and sizer die for it, and has shot it. Does anyone have any idea just how rare these type of Lancaster guns are----I suspect quite rare, based on my seeing very few of them for sale over past 40 years or so?

There is an article by Ross Seyfreid in the latest Double Gun Journal on the Lancaster Colindian.
There is a lesser grade Colindian for sale at http://www.doublegunhq.com/itemDetails.aspx?id=3698 too.
They are cool for sure.

Thank you Huvbius. I was aware of, and read, the DGJ article. Additionally, I bought the Colindian you mentioned, prior to your bringing my attention to it, and I thought that he deleted it from sale listings. However, I was trying to see if I could locate someone who has loaded for and worked out good accurate handloads for this sort of smooth oval bore rifling

DRJ,
If this were my gun , I would get a paradox mold or some sample bullets cast no harder than 20to1 and about 730gr. I might even try pure lead. I would have sizer made that would size a bullet to the point you could push it through the bore with little resistance. I would also want to be able to size larger than that up to around .735 at various diameters. I would use the the pressure tested Unique load CAREFULLY starting under 21grs and shooting over a chronograph looking for a velocity of around 1050fps to 1150fps. I would assemble the loads in the same manner as any Westley or Holland paradox starting with the smaller bullets. But I wouldn't and couldn't advise anyone to do this other than myself.

Thank yuo, Gatsby, I was thinking of doing basically what you suggest, and I intend to do that as soon as the weather gets a bit warmer. Thanks again for your thoughts on this matter.

Best wishes getting your load worked out. I hope you bring that gun up to the H&H SxS Championship and Paradox Exhibition in Mt. Vernon, WA on Aug. 7th. I'd really enjoy seeing it.
