I currently own six Heym doubles (that I can think of off the top of my head). I have owned countless others. I own one Verney-Carron, will be taking delivery of a bespoke .500 this Tuesday and have ordered a bespoke .577 which I hope to see by years end.

The Heym's are wonderful guns and so are the Verney-Carron's. IMHO, the Verney-Carron's feel better and recoil less. The new Heym's cost a hell of alot more which IMHO is hard to justify. Thus, for a working gun, I'll take the Verney-Carron. This comes from one who has owned and shot both quite a bit. I might also suggest attending the Vintage Cup in September and see the results of the DR competitions. The results with the V-C guns are most impressive.

Other than that, we must agree to disagree.

Don

Grandveneur

I do own several vintage British doubles and the Lord willing will own many more.

This thread is about "Heym or Verney-Carron".

Thus I gave my $.02 worth as to the best value in my educated opinion, having much experience with both.

That is right, but your case is very interesting ! If you are fortunate, why do you buy a lot of serial DR's like Heym, V-C , may be Merkel or Sabatti ... We expect that you buy only DR's from Holland and Holland, Westley Richards, Marcel Thys , Hartmann und Weiss , for exemple !

Grandveneur

I don't care what you would expect.

I'll keep buying guns from those *********

Now, is that what you'd expect to hear?

So, back to the purpose of this thread.........

The Heym is a very well made double.

If I was going to buy a new made double today the Heym would be my pick.

Eland_Slaya, my best advice is to go to either Dallas or Reno next January, look closely at both guns and then make up your own mind.
