295 Rook H&H Roof Rifle

Hello!

I have come across a very nice H&H Rook Rifle, chambered in 295 Rook

1) Does anyone know anything about this round/caliber?

2) Aside from the small quantities @ auctions here in the UK, does anyone know sources?

Crazy Idea: re-bore for something like .204 Ruger? Another caliber?

Would love to go and shoot rabitts and such with this little rifle...

Definitely leave it as is.
IIRC, 295 is the same as the 300 rook.
Cases, dies and molds are available. I use a swaging die which is nice because it is possible to cut a .308" cast bullet to length and then push it through the die to swage it down to .300"
All that is needed is to clean up the bullet base with a file but I bet that probably isn't really needed.
Pictures would be nice - is it a hammerless or a side lever hammer gun?

I agree with Huvius leave it, it will take rabbits easy - H&H is too good to mess with
In the UK, Henry Krank sells cases, Andy Allwood sells .300 bullets (.308" swaged down) very reasonable. [All on Google] 2.5 grains Bullseye is a popular load
Colin Greenwood's "The Classic British Rook and Rabbit Rifle" ISBN 1-861268807 is only 19.95GBP and well worth it if you are getting interested in these little rifles and includes some loads.
There is quite a bit on loading etc. on the YUKU British Militaria Forum
Please do not take offence, but it needs to be on your Firearms Certificate if you shoot it
As with the other post, pics would be nice if you get it

Wow, I see that everyone is on the same side... I did say crazy idea...

That for the input and putting me in the right direction for the brass and bullets
