Don't give up on your Baikal project. I bought one of the SxS's in 30 06 and after shooting about 100 rounds thru it can say with absolute certainty the rifle is superbly accurate.
220 Hornadys are shooting under 1 inch at 50 yards and previously tried 180 partitions with the same result.
Triggers are terrible but the rifle goes bang every time and locks up tight. Fit and finish are what you should expect for a double rifle costing under $700. Stock comb is to high for iron sights so this rifle is scoped.

So impressed with this rifle that I just bought the O/U version as well. No range time with it yet but initial observations are: Much better triggers, heavier by about 1 1/2 pounds (must be built on the 12 gauge receiver), lower comb and iron sights line up nice.

They are very easy to regulate and this is why I think they are so handy. Just change the load and hit the range and a box of ammo and the rifle is dialed in. Soon I will take mine to the smith to have the triggers fixed.

I'll be the first to admit these are not nice rifles to look at. But if you are looking for a cheap, accurate rifle that you can take out chasing animals without fearing a little rust or scratches they are perfect. With the 220's I would hunt any animal in North America with it.

Range time with these rifles has been the most fun I had in ages (outside of our Alaskan double shoots). Some of you guys should forget being gun snobs and give them a try.
