Some historical tusker photos

I believe the hunter is Italo Balbo with a 120 pound tusker taken in Somalia

Another image showing Italo Balbo with the tusks

Italo Balbo was a famous Italian pilot pre-WW2. In fact a flight of 24 planes in formation is called a "Balbo" in aurfaring terms. One of his exploits was to lead a flight of 24 seaplanes on Lake Michigan in front of 100,000 people for the 1933 Chicago World Fair. Later he went on to become the Marshall of the Italian Air Force.

The elephant was hunted in Jubaland of Italian Somalialand in 1938.

What a magnificent beast. I also was amazed at how ancient the old tusker looked in the first photo.

A grand old man of the bush.

I've only had it as a spicy biltong.
