German drilling

Question for you drilling guys. A friend brought a German hammer drilling to me today that is a 16X16X9.3X72R. I think it is a Stahl but has no names on it. It has a typical safety slide on top tang. There is no cocking lever in the action for the rifle barrel. I tried pushing the front trigger forward to see if that cocked it but it didn't. The tang slide I would assume to be the way to fire the rifle barrel with the front trigger. Please educate me.

Sam

Since it's a hammer gun that shouldn't be a safety on the tang. The safety is the half cock on the hammers. That tang button should be for the rifle barrel selection.

Yes I know the slide is for the rifle barrel but what cocks it. It could be that there is a mechanical problem inside, the rifle barrel won't fire.

It should fire with the RH hammer.
If it doesn't I'd have a look inside.

Let us know if that's the right answer. For me it's hard to tell unless it's in my sweaty hands and I can see it.

If you cock the right hammer and then slide the selector button you should see a block of steel move near the exposed firing pin. This block will transfer the hammer blow to the internal firing pin for the bottom barrel.

It could also cock a third lock. and if it feels loose as if a safety the spring could be broken.

TH44, Sorry no photos and not sure that I will see the gun again anytime soon. A friend owns it and I don't see him very often. The gun isn't in the best of shape so I didn't take any photos. If I handle it again I will post what I have found out.
Thanks everyone for your help.

Sam
