Pike Under the Ice.
      #151757 - 25/01/10 02:23 PM

Look what one of my daughters brought home!

Not only does she shoot big deer, now she adds big fish.

12 pound pike, a really nice one in these parts.

She and a girlfriend went icefishing with girlfriend's father. I trade him leg o'lamb for fish! A good deal, since I love fish but ain't much of a fisherman, other than the time I devote to my beloved brook trout in summer.

How do you cook Pike to make it edible ? the one I tried in the UK was muddy and FULL of small bones, maybe the water where you are is a lot cleaner but I would like to see a recipe or two, best, Mike

Clean water? Maybe that's it, Mike.

The fillets are thick meat, few bones and very tasty.

I'll have to post pix and recipe when we eat it next.

Best fish cakes I've ever eaten, were made by an old lady at a resort in Northern Ontario - pike as well. recipe? - can't help. No bones, either.

They can be fileted into 4 pieces with no bones, but there is a lot of waste. Nothing worse than a Y bone caught in your throat. They're easy enough to catch, no problem wasting a bit of meat.

Canned, as local friends of mine do with the [ike they catch up north, you can eat the smaller bones, no problem.

Pickeral - now that's an 'eatin' fish, better than anything with red meat - except well properly prepared Sockeye.

Nice northern! I think they are a fine tasting fish as well. Mmmm. I went perching this past weekend, came home with ten.
