Sabatti 500NE at Fort Worth Cabelas

From GunsInternational

Five grand.
Eight and a half pounds.

The price really is low, so's the weight.
That thing is going to smart with proper 570gr ammunition!

Cheers

It'd be interesting if one of the FW area members could slide in and have a first hand look at it and report...
What's the weight gain a mercury dampener would add? 10 oz.? If it's barrel heavy then that may help balance it.

At 8.5 pounds it would get your attention that's for sure! That's way too light for a 500 IMO.

On bolt guns I hear it's semi common to put 1 or 2 of those recoil reducers in the big bores. That weight would help this one.

My wildcat .505 bolt rifle weighs 8 3/4 pounds and shoots 570 grain bullets at 2150 fps, just like the .500 NE. Shooting at game, I never noticed the recoil. Shooting for practice, I used cast bullet reduced loads, which may not be practical with a double rifle, although they worked fine in my Krieghoff .458 Winchester Magnum.

My Whitworth in .458 is just about ten pounds, dressed and ready to kill some dinner.

At that weight it's a sweet handling and shooting rifle.

I'd want to shoot one of these things (at that weight) before I'd want to pay for one of these things!
Easy for me to say that, in that I'm not shopping for a 500NE - and the five grand price doesn't really make my tender bits sweat...

Cheers

Blimey Xausa, you're a better man than me, a .500 in an 8.5lb rifle !!! not for me. Roland at the Holland gun school has obviously shot damn nigh everything. He had a mate who turned up with a .458 Lott for a range test, he had had it custom built for him with a synthetic stock, it weighed 8 1/4lbs from memory. Roland was there and turned down an offer of a "go". The chap fired 2 shots, huge headache and a bleeding nose, as far as Roland knows his friend took it home and hasn't touched it since. best, Mike

I shoot a 500 that weighs 9 lbs 12 oz and it really isn't that bad. I prefer a light gun but I think 8 lbs 10 oz is very light for this caliber but it sure would make a neat cast bullet gun. For $5000 you can't hardly find a shooter 500 BPE. I will be very interested in hearing how these guns pan out. I wonder if their 577 and 600 were going to be under 10 lbs. Yikes that would not be my idea of fun.

I wonder what the pull on the rear trigger will be like, i guess long and hard. The look of the action is neat, with umbrellas and all, a different shaped wood and i would be glad to own one.

Mike,

PM me with your email address and I'll send you a photo of the rifle and me just after putting four rounds into my first elephant. No bloody nose and no headache.

I would post the picture but I don't know how.

Bill
